Altitude of the Places Bhutan​​

1. Thimphu (Capital)

• Altitude: 2,334 meters (7,657 feet)
• Thimphu is located in a valley at a relatively high altitude but experiences a temperate climate.

2. Paro

• Altitude: 2,200 meters (7,218 feet)
• Paro is home to Bhutan’s only international airport and is surrounded by mountains and monasteries like the famous Tiger’s Nest.

3. Punakha

• Altitude: 1,242 meters (4,075 feet)
• Punakha is much lower in altitude compared to Thimphu and Paro, and it enjoys a warmer, subtropical climate.

4. Phuentsholing

• Altitude: 293 meters (961 feet)
• Located at the southern border with India, Phuentsholing is one of the lowest regions in Bhutan, with a hot and humid climate.

5. Bumthang (Jakar)

• Altitude: 2,600 meters (8,530 feet)
• Bumthang, a cultural hub, is situated at a high altitude with cool temperatures and serves as the gateway to many of Bhutan’s famous temples and monasteries.

6. Trongsa

• Altitude: 2,200 meters (7,218 feet)
• Trongsa is a central district known for its historic dzong and its role in Bhutan’s monarchy.

7. Wangdue Phodrang

• Altitude: 1,350 meters (4,429 feet)
• This region has a diverse climate and lies at a lower altitude compared to Thimphu, making it warmer and good for agriculture.

8. Gasa

• Altitude: 2,900 meters (9,514 feet)
• Gasa is a remote, high-altitude region in northern Bhutan, known for its pristine natural environment and hot springs.

9. Haa

• Altitude: 2,700 meters (8,858 feet)
• Haa is a high-altitude valley near Paro, famous for its scenic beauty and traditional architecture.

10. Laya (Northern Bhutan)

• Altitude: 3,800 meters (12,467 feet)
• Laya is one of the highest inhabited villages in Bhutan, located in the far north and known for trekking and stunning views of the Himalayas.

11. Dagana

• Altitude: 1,500 meters (4,921 feet)
• This region has a moderate altitude and is known for its lush, forested landscape.

Bhutan’s Highest Peaks:

• Gangkhar Puensum: 7,570 meters (24,836 feet) – The highest unclimbed mountain in the world, located in northern Bhutan.
• Jomolhari: 7,326 meters (24,035 feet) – Another prominent peak often seen on treks in the north.

General Altitude Range in Bhutan:

• Lowest point: Around 100 meters (328 feet) in the southern plains.
• Highest point: 7,570 meters (24,836 feet) at Gangkhar Puensum in the north.

Due to these variations in altitude, Bhutan has a wide range of climates, from subtropical in the south to alpine in the north.
